International Museum Day – May 18, 2018

International Museum Day

Friday, May 18, 1:00 to 4:00 pm

Join an international movement and visit a museum on May 18.  Glanmore will be celebrating the launch of an online searchable database of our artifact collections. Free admission from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

The museum is enhancing services to the public with the development of a new searchable database featuring the museum’s artifact collections.  The database can now be accessed through the museum website at http://glanmore.ca/collection/.

The launch of  Glanmore’s database during the National Historic Site’s Museum Day Open House fits nicely with this year’s theme of “Hyper –Connected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics.”

Curator Rona Rustige says “This is something we have wanted for a long time.”  The online database is very timely as Glanmore is working to develop a strategic plan which will identify ways to reach more audiences and help shape the future of the museum.

During the initial launch phase, only a few hundred records from the Couldery Collection will be available. However, Rustige notes that “more records will be added regularly.”

Free admission to Glanmore will be offered as part of the International Museum Day Open House, May 18, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  Staff will be on hand to demonstrate the database to visitors. Call 613-962-2329 or visit www.glanmore.ca for more information.
