Holiday Traditions

Grades 1 to 3

Available: November 27 to December 19, 2019

Duration:  1.5 hours 

Maximum Class Size: 40 students   

Cost:  $4.50 per student (incl. HST)

Share family traditions and learn about special ways we celebrate in this exploration of 1890s Christmas in Belleville.  Students will discover the origins of many modern Christmas practices including tree decoration, gift giving and family gatherings.  During a guided tour of the historic house students will see period holiday decorations and a selection of Victorian toys.  Plus, students will make a Victorian tree ornament inspired by Glanmore’s historic decorations.

Grades 2 to 4

Available: March 10 to April 24, 2020

Duration:  1.5 hours 

Maximum Class Size: 30 students          

Cost:  $4.50 per student (incl. HST)

Canadian children love to play, indoors or outdoors, all year-round! Canada at Play, a travelling exhibition from the Royal Ontario Museum looks at some of our nation’s favourite games, toys and pastimes over the past 130 years. Discover how toys and games have evolved over time through hands-on investigation and playtime with reproduction historic toys similar to those enjoyed by generations. Students will construct a simple toy to take home inspired by a traditional First Nations game.

Grades K to 4 

Available: May 27 to June 19, 2020

Duration: 1.5 hours

Maximum Class Size: 30 students     

Cost Per Student: $4.50 (incl. HST)

Your class is cordially invited to a delightful garden party at Glanmore National Historic Site. Students will assist with party preparations and discover how the Phillips family may have entertained their guests long ago while touring the main floor of the historic house. They will dress up in our costume elements to practice their social etiquette while sipping homemade lemondade. Then head outdoors to play historic garden games (weather permitting) such as stilts, hoops, croquet and graces.

Duration: 1 – 2 hours

 Maximum Class Size: 30 students

Cost Per Student: $4.50 (incl. HST)

Students will discover the story of Glanmore, the Phillips family and their servants in this interactive guided tour of Glanmore national historic Site. Learn all about Glanmore’s Second-Empire stle architecture, the restoration projects, extensive fine art collection and more! Let our eduction team develop the perfect program for your class.

 STUDENT TAKEOVER

Grades 7 to 8

1st person Interpretation at GlanmoreAvailable: February to April 2020

Duration: 20+ hours of instruction and mentoring both in the classroom and at the museum, plus one Saturday afternoon museum event.

Cost: $9.00 (incl. H.S.T.) per student – this is equal to two on-site programs at $4.50 each per student.*

Max. Class Size: 30 students

Re-imagine Glanmore grade 7/8 style! Students will learn about behind-the scenes activites at the museum and engage in real-life museum work through in-class session and on-site mentoring. Over several weeks students will develop meaningful cross-curriculum projects in the areas of marketing, exhibit development, historic interpretation, visitor engagement and more. Their work will be showcased in a student-run public event known as “Takeover Day.”

$15.00 (incl. HST) for a 2 week loan

Enrich your lessons about multicultural celebrations with this helpful education kit from Glanmore National Historic Site.  The kit contains artifacts, pictures, background information, activities and suggestions for further study.
