Glanmore is committed to providing the Quinte Region with enriched learning experiences that complement the Ontario Curriculum.   The Education Program offerings for the 2017-2018 school year are listed below.

Grades 5-8 and 9-12

Available Year-round (except November, December and June)          Duration: 1.5 hours Maximum Class Size: 30 Students          Cost: $3.50 per student (incl. HST)

Students will discover the story of Glanmore, the Phillips family and their servants in this interactive guided tour of Glanmore National Historic Site. Learn all about Glanmore’s Second Empire architecture, the recent interior restoration project, extensive fine art collection and more!
  •  Tours can be tailored to meet a wide range of curriculum needs including development of language and literacy skills.


Holiday Traditions

Grades K to 4

Available: November 21 to December 21st, 2017

Duration:  1.5 hours 

Maximum Class Size: 40 students          Cost:  $3.50 per student (incl. HST)

Share family traditions and learn about special ways we celebrate in this exploration of 1890s Christmas in Belleville.  Students will discover the origins of many modern Christmas practices including tree decoration, gift giving and family gatherings.  During a guided tour of the historic house students will see period holiday decorations and a selection of Victorian toys.  Plus, students will make a Victorian tree ornament inspired by Glanmore’s historic decorations.

Early Settler Treasuresquilt

Grades K to 4

Available: January 23 to April 16, 2018

Duration:  1.5 hours 

Maximum Class Size: 40 students          Cost:  $3.50 per student (incl. HST)

Discover the comforts of a pioneer home in the early settler days! Compare and contrast the comforts of Glanmore with your own home and those of a pioneer homestead.  See the types of “treasured” objects pioneers brought with them to start their new life in Canada.  learn how settler families stayed warm, lit their homes and entertained themselves.

  • Grade 3 – Heritage and Identity: Communities in Canada, 1780-1850

  • All Grades – The Arts: Visual Arts


fieldHands-On Nature

Grades 2-4 or Grades 6 to 7 

Available: March 20 to April 27, 201    Duration: 1.5 hours

Maximum Class Size: 40 students        

Cost Per Student: $3.50 (incl. HST)

Active learning through observation and experimentation are featured in this program developed to accompany Hands-On Nature, a travelling exhibit visiting from the Royal Ontario Museum.
Grades 2 to 4: Students will become more aware of their natural surroundings as they learn about how plants and animals in a Southern Ontario marshland rely upon each other for survival. They will find out about some of Canada’s endangered species and discover ways to help protect them and their habitats.
Grades 6 to 7: Discover the fascinating biodiversity of Canada! Learn about hte forest regions of Canada and their unique ecosystems.  Discover the food web of a Southern Ontario marshland and find out about threats caused by habitat destruction and invaisive species – leading causes of biodiveristy loss.  This program is sure to inspire responsible stewardship of Canada’s natural resources.

Victorian Garden Games

 Grades K to 4

 Available:  May 29 to June 22, 2018          Duration: 1.5 hours

 Maximum Class Size: 40 students          Cost Per Student: $3.50 (incl. HST)

Explore Glanmore on a guided tour to discover parlour games and toys children played with long ago.  Students will play croquet, toss graces, bowl barrel hoops, walk on stilts  and more.  Active play opportunities abound in this end of the school year program.  Indoor activities will be featured on rainy days.

 Home School Days

Exclusive programming just for home school educators and their families!

Parents and students are encouraged to drop in to explore Glanmore and work together at a variety of themed activity stations.   Please help us prepare sufficient supplies and materials by pre-registering your family for Home School Days activities.    Call 613-962-2329.

Home School Days activities will be available at Glanmore anytime between 1:30 and 3:30 pm on the following dates:

  • Holiday Traditions (grades K to 4) – December 7
  • Every Object Tells a Story (grades 3 to 6) –  February 2
  • Nice Woman Don’t Want the Vote (Grades 8 to 12) – April 17 
  • Victorian Garden Games (grades K to 3) – May 30

Education Kit Rental

Celebrations of Light: Ramadan, Hanukkah, Diwali & Lunar New Year

$15.00 (incl. HST) for a 2 week loan

Enrich your lessons about multicultural celebrations with this helpful education kit from Glanmore National Historic Site.  The kit contains artifacts, pictures, background information, activities and suggestions for further study.
