Celebrating Seniors Making A Difference

Celebrating Seniors Making a Difference

Ontario Senior’s Month

June is Ontario Senior’s Month.  Throughout the month Ontarians have been encouraged to celebrate seniors making a difference.
Many of the volunteers at Glanmore are seniors. Here are just a few vibrant seniors that make a difference at Glanmore National Historic Site:
Elsie greets visitors at Glanmore's reception desk.
Elsie is a welcoming presence at our museum reception desk.  Her sunny ways and charming Scottish brogue make her a hit with museum visitors.
Rae volunteers as a museum docent and gives guided tours.
Rae volunteers as a museum docent.  She is continually learning about Glanmore and the artifacts in our museum collections.  Here she is seen giving a reguided tour to a group of Red Hat Ladies.
Lindi enters data onto the computer

Lindi calls herself a “Data Diva.”  For the past year she has been volunteering about once a week to input information about artifacts collection into our collections records database.  She is always amazed at the variety of artifacts in our regional collection.
Shirley researches and catalogues artifacts
Shirley works to research and catalogue artifacts in our collection.  She enjoys the challenge of research and is always learning new things while she volunteers at Glanmore.  The notes she make about artifacts will eventually be added to our collections records database.
Thousands of volunteer hours are contributed to Glanmore each year by vibrant seniors just like these. Staff  at Glanmore send out a big thanks to all of our senior volunteers for their time and effort to make Glanmore the welcoming and interesting cultural resource that it is!
